Shelley Berkley

Representative Shelley Berkley has served Nevada's 1st Congressional District since 1999. She is the former vice chair of the Nevada University and Community College system Board of Regents and a former member of the Nevada State Assembly. Berkley is a strong healthcare advocate, working to create a voluntary prescription drug benefit under Medicare. She is the author of pending legislation that will reduce red tape for doctors treating Medicare patients and is dedicated to improving health care access for seniors. Berkley has also worked to improve the Las Vegas area schools, increasing funding for programs designed to reduce student dropout rates and expand after school programs. She is a strong proponent of the development of alternate energy sources and introduced legislation to develop technological solutions for the disposal of nuclear waste. Berkley lives in Las Vegas, is married to Dr. Lawrence Lehrner and is the mother of two sons, Sam and Max.
