The National Jewish Democratic Council has, for 20 years, served as a trusted voice and resource for Democratic office holders, candidates and party organizations to better understand and engage with the Jewish community. NJDC mobilizes the Jewish community and convenes leadership to support the Democratic promise for all Americans.
We look to our Jewish tradition to guide us on the issues of social and economic justice, religious pluralism and the peace and security of the State of Israel that will be the hallmark of our work.
NJDC believes that through our work in Democratic Party politics, we can ensure a better world for our children and grandchildren.
In support of the national mission, The Birmingham Chapter of the National Jewish Democratic Council has participated in Democratic Party efforts for a successful general election in 2010. In addition to informing voters about national issues, the chapter publishes information regarding local political activity.
During the 2010 primary, NJDC hosted an informal "meet-the-candidates" cocktail gathering at Rojo in Southside, a mixer where candidates and members enjoyed getting to know each other without the formality of speeches.
We view the provision of significant information about upcoming legislation, both at the national and state level, as important to helping our members stay informed. Regular memorandums are sent to our members to alert them to important issues, meetings, votes and important dates.
NJDC Birmingham also partners with the Over-The-Mountain Democrats, led by a member of Birmingham's Jewish community, attorney Craig Niedenthal. We also support joint activities with other Democratic Party groups.
