Jewish Dems Mourn the Death of President Shimon Peres z”l

Washington, DC– Following the news on the passing of former Israeli President Shimon Peres z”l, the National Jewish Democratic Council released the following statement:

“Today, we deeply mourn the loss of former Israeli President Shimon Peres, a lifelong leader and trailblazer for the Jewish people and the State of Israel.

"A member of Israel's founding generation, Shimon Peres dedicated his life to public service for more than seven decades. Peres has helped to craft the vision for the State of Israel and to lead its people toward a bright future as a democratic home for the Jewish people. His tireless work striving for peace and democratic values has inspired many, and has earned him much-deserved recognition. President Barack Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States, for his peace efforts. Peres also received the Congressional Gold Medal, being honored by both sides of the aisle for his inspiring work and commitment to the pursuit of justice and peace.

“Shimon Peres was a man of values and integrity. He was loved by his countrymen and loved by the world.

"We mourn Shimon Peres’ death together with his family and the people of Israel. May his memory be a blessing.”
