Below are ten documented things every American Jew should know about former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney; follow the links to view supporting materials.

1. Romney emphasized recently that he would defund Planned Parenthood, and that his would “be a pro-life presidency.

2. Questions linger surrounding the Iran-tainted assets of Romney’s charity, even as President Obama places unprecedented pressure on Iran.

3. With each passing month, Romney has disagreed more and more with the scientific consensus regarding global climate change.

4. Romney vehemently opposed the President’s contraception compromise, which will ensure that women’s preventive services are widely available while addressing religious liberty concerns. This compromise was praised by groups ranging from the Catholic Health Association to the Orthodox Union.

5. During nationally-televised debates, Romney has engaged in outright lies surrounding the President’s record on Israel, and he uses Israel as a partisan wedge issue whenever possible.

6. While 76% of Jews support gay marriage and even more support gay rights, Romney doesn’t just oppose gay marriage - he has chosen to engage in gay-baiting rhetoric in front of conservative crowds.

7. Romney told CNN, “yes, I would vote for” the anti-Israel Ron Paul for president if Paul were to become the GOP nominee.

8. Romney’s flip-flops are legendary; for example, he supported key elements of the Affordable Care Act - including the individual mandate - but he now promises to dismantle it.

9. Romney is no moderate, at least not now. By his own description, he’s “severely conservative.”

10. As the front page of The Washington Post has recently noted, Romney has formed a “strategic partnership” with the anti-Israel Ron Paul.

11. As a spokesman and surrogate, Romney is using former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu—an individual with a singular record of voting against Israel’s interests.

11. The Book of Mormon verse, Mormon (7:5), reads: “Know ye that ye must come to the knowledge of your fathers, and repent of all your sins and iniquities, and believe in Jesus Christ, that he is the Son of God, and that he was slain by the Jews, and by the power of the Father he hath risen again, whereby he hath gained the victory over the grave; and also in him is the sting of death swallowed up.” Note the “slain by the Jews” phrase; Romney believes in deicide.

John MCLAUGHLIN on his Sunday show (Begins videotaped segment.) DEFENSE SECRETARY LEON PANETTA SAYS:    “The United States and the President has made this clear—does not want Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. If they proceed and we get intelligence that they’re proceeding with developing a nuclear weapon, then we will take whatever steps are necessary to stop them. “

Secretary of Defense Panneta on Face the Nation: “I think the international strategy here, and this really has been an international strategy to apply sanctions, to apply diplomatic pressure on them, to try to convince Iran that if, you know, they want to do what’s right, they need to join the international family of nations and act in a responsible way. I think the pressure of the sanctions, I think the pressure of diplomatic pressures from everywhere—Europe, United States, elsewhere—is working to put pressure on them, to make them understand that they cannot continue to do what they’re doing. Are they trying to develop a nuclear weapon? No.  But we know that they’re trying to develop a nuclear capability. And that’s what concerns us. And our red line to Iran is do not develop a nuclear weapon. That’s a red line for us. “
later on Face the Nation BOB SCHIEFFER asks : “Mr. Secretary, would you like to add anything to that? SECRETARY LEON PANETTA: I think they ( the Iranians) need to know that—that if they take that step that they’re going to get stopped.;contentBody

Secretary Leon Panetta indicated Sunday interview on CBS:
Panetta: “If they proceed and we get intelligence that they’re proceeding with developing a nuclear weapon, then we will take whatever steps are necessary to stop it.”

I hate to be parochial, but the ‘minor’ point that Romney is a proud leader of a church that continues its practice of posthumously baptizing Jews - especially including Holocaust victims - into their faith with no permissions from the families is horrendous. A violation of religious liberties and an invasion of privacy. It has to be indicative of his attitude towards the rights of individuals as a whole, and the powers of the ruling corporation (political or business) over the individual.
I sincerely hope that apathy on the part of non-Conservative, non-“Christian” voters will not make possible this man’s achieving the presidency, and bringing his friends with him.

And most important: The next president will pick our next two or three Supreme Court Justices who will serve not only the next four years but the next 40!
