NJDC Leadership to Obama and Bibi: “Now is the Time for Bold Steps”

WASHINGTON, DC- The Executive Committee of the National Jewish Democratic Council issued a statement in support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to the United States, calling for “new ideas and powerful plans that will take advantage of current opportunities”:
“We eagerly anticipate the upcoming visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this May. The entire world is looking to the United States for leadership in the Middle East—and President Obama himself has demonstrated that leadership, including his strong support for Israel and his deep desire to work with Prime Minister Netanyahu. It is our genuine hope that Prime Minister Netanyahu will bring with him new ideas and powerful plans that will take advantage of current opportunities to help ensure a lasting and secure peace for Israel in the new Middle East. The unbreakable ties between the U.S. and Israel and the shared desires of President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu for a secure state of Israel are key factors in realizing that goal. Now is the time for bold steps, and we sincerely hope that Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Palestinian leadership will seize this opportunity.”
The Obama Administration has demonstrated an unprecedented commitment to Israel’s security and legitimacy in the face of the changing Middle East. American support for a secure Israel is the critical component that will allow any future plan for peace to succeed. The United States has historically been Israel’s key ally—militarily and at the negotiating table. President Obama’s support for Israel has exceeded historical precedent, enabling Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Palestinian Authority to work towards a plan that secures Israel’s borders and fulfills the Palestinian people’s national aspirations.
During his visit, Prime Minister Netanyahu is expected to address Congress, meet with officials from the Obama Administration, and discuss the tremendously close U.S.-Israel alliance. His visit to the United States further reflects that the strategic partnership between the United States and Israel is strong and unbreakable.
