Jewish Dems ask GOP Field: Agree with Huckabee that Two-State Solution is “Irrational”?
June 1, 2015
Speaking to an Israeli news outlet this weekend in New York, Republican presidential candidate and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee asserted that a two-state solution between the Israelis and the Palestinians is “irrational” and that the Palestinians should leave the area entirely if they want their own state. The National Jewish Democratic Council denounced Huckabee’s statements, asking if his fellow Republican candidates agreed.
“Gov. Huckabee’s statements this weekend make it difficult for anyone to take him seriously. His comments place him at odds with every single GOP president since 1948 and all of the Republican presidential nominees in recent memory. To say that the two-state solution is ‘irrational,’ while further suggesting that the Palestinians should leave the area to create their own state, puts Huckabee way outside the mainstream – even in his own party. We wonder whether the rest of the Republican candidates side with Huckabee or side with virtually every leading Republican politician for nearly 70 years, who have at least paid lip service in support of a two-state solution.”
