Some of you may remember when Politico wrote that, “It’s a good time to be a Jewish Democrat.” Washington Jewish Week also reported "NJDC may have room for you in D.C." As you can see bellow, the article expands on the Politico article.
[NJDC] booked 68 hotel rooms at the Marriott Metro Center for Inauguration Weekend.
"We were very bullish on Obama being elected so we figured that there would be no downside" to booking the rooms, said NJDC president Marc Stanley. "We really did it as a benefit to members of our various giving clubs"
Quite a lot of giving indeed. To qualify for a room, one must have donated $5,000 or more to the group in the past year and have pledged a similar amount for 2009.
Though some of the pads are already booked, Stanley said about 40 rooms are still available to donors who have no place to stay during President-elect Barack Obama's big weekend.
"Our rooms are significantly cheaper, I think, than what's being offered now," Stanley quipped, as he explained that rooms at the Marriott are currently being offered for $999, plus taxes and fees, with a five-night required stay.
While Stanley was unsure if members would receive the full red carpet treatment, including designer chocolates and spa trips, he said, "They're already getting something, and that's a great president."
