To Bow or Not to Bow?

The internet is buzzing with various pundits commenting on President Barack Obama’s bow to the Japanese Emperor, Akihito. In response, Foreign Policy ‘s Joshua Keating published a photo history of American presidents bowing to various heads of state.

Obama may or may not have committed a harmless so-called faux pas, but he is certainly not the first nor the last president to be engulfed in this sort of gossip-ridden scandal. Regardless of the height of his bow, Obama will have to do a lot more in order to supplant President George H.W. Bush as king of the Japanese faux pas.
