The First Jewish Speaker in the House of Commons

In an historic first, John Bercow, who is Jewish, has been elected Speaker in the British House of Commons. The new Speaker was a member of the Conservative Party (Speakers by tradition eschew any partisan ties) and represented the constituency of Buckingham. Bercow has campaigned as a reformer and welcomes the role as an impartial voice in Parliament; his election was made possible by his bipartisan nature.
