The Jerusalem Post reported this week on the riots taking place Jerusalem’s Mea She’arim neighborhood.
The riots were in response to the arrest and indictment of a haredi mother accused of starving her toddler son. The woman, according to the Post, is a member of the fringe sect Neutrei Karta and suffers from a psychiatric disorder that led her to starve her child for two years.
Thursday night saw violence erupt in the streets. According to Ynet ultra-Orthodox protestors blocked Highway 1 and police used water cannons to clear the crowds.
Ynet is currently reporting a lull in the violence but that protests may resume as an early as Saturday in response to a parking lot that will remain open on Shabbat.
