In his new book, To Save America: Stopping Obama’s Secular-Socialist Machine, former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich brazenly declared:
“The secular-socialist machine represents as great a threat to America as Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union once did.”
Additionally, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, who served in Gingrich’s GOP caucus, condemned Gingrich for his abusive Holocaust rhetoric:
Menachem Rosensaft, Founding Chairman of the International Network of Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, asked in The Huffington Post: where is the Republican leadership on denouncing Gingrich’s use of abusive Holocaust rhetoric?
GOP leaders largely stood silent as right-wingers invoked abusive Holocaust rhetoric during the health care reform debate – even when elected officials compared President Barack Obama to Hitler. Will they speak up now that one of their ideological paragons has written a book (presumably for profit) in which liberals and other groups whom conservatives find objectionable are compared to the Nazis?
So far, as Rosensaft notes, there has been “not even a murmur of disapproval” from GOP leaders.
