NJDC CEO Ira N. Forman submitted the following op-eds in support of President Barack Obama’s nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court of the United States:

For The Hill, Forman wrote:

Given that a Democratic President is going to pick someone on the progressive side of the spectrum any objective observer is going to then look to a nominee’s qualifications- intellectual and professional. By this standard Solicitor General Kagan is a homerun.

She is probably more of conciliator than her former boss, Justice Thurgood Marshall. However, she will be a welcome advocate for those who do not always have enough of a voice on a court that increasingly represents the powerful.

And for Politico‘s Arena, Forman wrote:

Solicitor General Elena Kagan is supremely qualified and I think the public will appreciate President Obama’s insistence on picking someone with such strong academic and professional qualifications. She will be a welcome addition to a court that has become increasingly divided in favor of the powerful. As American Jews, we also take special pride in seeing another member of our community nominated to the highest court in the land as well as the addition of the third woman to the court.
