NJDC President and CEO David A. Harris submitted the following blog entry from the White House reception celebrating Elena Kagan’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.

There’s truly an electric mood here in the East Room of the White House as key coalition supporters, activists and friends have gathered for a celebration of this historic confirmation. Only adding to the positive mood is the United States Marine Band that welcomed us with some very upeat, uptempo music. President Obama reminded us of how much we learned during Elena Kagan’s extensive hearings - even including where she was on Christmas Day, which garnered a good laugh. He also noted that Justice Kennedy - who was present - had promised him that he would keep the new Justice out of trouble, while Justice Ginsberg, also present, promised that she would help get her into trouble. But both the President and General Kagan spoke movingly about the meaning of this historic confirmation - and the obligations that go with it.

After the President’s remarks in the East Room, the reception continued outside where the President thanked me and NJDC for the role we played in this confirmation process. All in all, a truly great day - for the Court, our community and the country.
