Congresswoman’s Initials on Gun Range Target Prompts GOP Official to Resign

Republican official Ed Napolitano has resigned from all of his Republican Party positions following actions of Robert Lowry, a Republican candidate for Florida’s 20th Congressional District which is currently represented by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, (D-FL).

Napolitano, who was President of the Southeast Republican Club, resignation was prompted by an event the GOP club held earlier this month at a gun range where Lowry, a Republican seeking his party’s nomination to run against Wasserman Schultz next year, shot at a target with the letters “DWS” next to the target.

According to The Sun Sentinel, “Lowry initially described it as a ‘joke,’ but later said it ‘was a mistake.’”

Napolitano told The Sun Sentinel that he was not aware of the situation at the event, but it “was stupid. It was reckless. It was ridiculous. I wouldn’t want Democrats doing that to our candidates.”

Napolitano resigned as President of the Southeast Republican Club, Republican committeeman, and Membership Chairman of the Broward County Republican Party and has apologized to Wasserman Schultz.

Did he resign because of being embarrassed on his watch, or did he resign to become a Democrat?  Would someone please explain.
