U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this weekend, promising to protect American allies in the Middle East, and warning Iran and North Korea that pursuing nuclear weapons is “futile.”
“If you are pursuing nuclear weapons for the purpose of intimidating … we’re not going to let that happen,” said Clinton.
This echoes previous statements from President Barack Obama, who told reporters earlier this summer, “A nuclear Iran would pose a grave threat and the world must prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.”
According to Clinton, “[Y]ou hope for the best, and you plan for the worst.”
Despite Clinton’s strong words on a serious subject matter, sci-fi geeks everywhere cannot help but instantly think of the famous pop culture link to the word “futile.”
