Brzezinski: Divorced from Reality

Aaron Keyak — September 22, 2009 – 4:54 pm | Israel | Foreign Policy Comments (2) Add a comment

It’s a sad state of affairs that Zbig Brzezinski, a former senior statesman, is so divorced from reality that he suggested the U.S. should attack Israeli jets if they attempt to strike Iran.

It goes without saying that Brzezinski’s off-the-wall comment has no relationship to the administration of President Barack Obama or any serious Democratic foreign policy circles. These are not comments that are useful in advancing U.S. foreign policy.

See for yourself:

“We are not exactly impotent little babies,” Brzezinski said. “They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch? ... We have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a ‘Liberty’ in reverse.”

The USS Liberty was a U.S. Navy technical research ship that the Israeli Air Force mistakenly attacked during the Six Day War in 1967.

Sir, If you were a true statesman or as canny a diplomat as you fancy yourself, perhaps other more intelligent possibilties on this matter would have occurred to you.
Only “impotent little babies” are limited to the option of throwing a fit. One wonders why you are constrained by that metaphor.

It’s not a coincidence that he worked for Jimmy Carter who has become outspoken against Israel!
