Besser Analyzes The New Yorker’s Huckabee Profile

The New York Jewish Week‘s James Besser has analyzed former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s attempt to pander to Jewish voters by discussing his dedication to Israel in a recent New Yorker profile.  Despite The New Yorker calling Huckabee “crazy about Israel and extremely enthusiastic about Jews,” Besser does not believe Huckabee’s support for Israel will be the deciding factor for the Jewish vote in 2012 if he heads the GOP ticket:

If Huckabee ends up the nominee, it’s hard to see much of a shift in Jewish voting.

The reason, of course, is that most Jews don’t vote based on the Israel factor unless they see a candidate as particularly onerous on the issue.

...On the domestic issues that are predominant in the priorities of most Jewish voters, Huck, with his strong Christian right leanings, will be a huge turnoff to many Jewish voters.
