A group calling itself “Don’t Buy into Apartheid” had the bright idea of protesting outside several Californian Trader Joe’s due to the company stocking Israeli products, but no Palestinian goods. This lack of diversity compelled the group to picket outside various Trader Joe’s in Oakland and San Francisco during “World Refugee Day,” with about 20 people in all participating in the demonstrations.
Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic‘s solution: saunter over to Trader Joe’s and purchase anything made or grown in Israel.
This revelation will encourage me to patronize Trader Joe’s on a larger scale. When I moved to California I loved the good quality, variety and reasonable prices. I was thrilled that Trader Joe’s opened in Virginia where I now live. I will spread the good news that Trader Joe’s is a staunch friend to Israel and should be supported by friends and family.
