Today, Marc R. Stanley, Chairman of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), and Ira N. Forman, CEO of NJDC, released the following statement:
NJDC extends a hearty Mazal Tov to Bernard “B” Rapoport upon receiving the Teddy Kollek Award. B is a giant among Jewish philanthropists, our personal mentor and a dear friend of NJDC who has served on our board for many years. His contributions to American politics, the American Jewish community and the State of Israel are immeasurable. B is clearly very deserving of this award.
Named after the late Jerusalem Mayor and B’s close friend, Teddy Kollek, the award is bestowed by The Jerusalem Foundation to one who has “made outstanding contributions to advancing the social, cultural, educational, and physical development of the city of Jerusalem.” B makes an enormous impact on any place or organization with which he is involved - Jerusalem is certainly no exception. One can hardly travel a block in Jerusalem without seeing B and Audre’s name on a building or project.
NJDC is proud to count B as a dedicated leader of our organization. There is no question that B leaves an indelible impression on all of those who have the honor of calling him a friend. This award is one of the latest, and surely not the last, of the many acknowledgments B deserves.
As a fellow Jewish Texan, even though now in Connecticut, I long admired Bernard Rapoport especially in taking up what was the unpopular in Texas. I still remembering working in the last Ralph :Yarborough campaign and Mr. Rapoport/s ongoing support for what was right.
A hearty Mazel Tov.
