According to a variety of sources, President Barack Obama is close to re-starting peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. According to their recent statements, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas both expressed readiness to resume talks. Obama is expected to unveil his plan for peace in the Middle East in September and, in addition to consulting with Israel, Obama also spoke with Jordan’s King Abdullah II over the phone and with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak during his recent visit to Washington about the new realities of the Middle East.
