Republican Irresponsibility Hits New Low With AHCA Vote
Washington, D.C. - Today, House Republicans forced a vote and passed the American Healthcare Act. The last time the bill was almost brought to a vote, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that nearly 27 million people would lose coverage if the AHCA were implemented. This time, Speaker Paul Ryan and his team threw responsibility out the door and decided they wouldn't wait for independent agencies to release their estimates.
In response, the National Jewish Democratic Council released the following statement:
“We are not surprised, but still extremely disappointed, that President Trump and the Republican leadership decided to go for a short-term win instead of thinking about the millions of lives that they have negatively affected by jamming this bill down our collective throats. Mark our words -- we will ensure that history will not look kindly on the Congressmen who voted in favor of the catastrophe known as Trumpcare.”
